Looking at your work - Day 1

For the next 7 days, I want to take a closer look at our work.  In the book Thou Shall Prosper, Rabbi Lapin says, "Few people can truly excel at occupations about which they entertain moral reservations".  If you feel like you are not helping others by the work that you do, then you should take a closer look at each task that you accomplish in a given day.  Some days may be full of recognizable ways in which you've helped someone but, other days you may feel like you are a character in the movie Groundhog Day.  You just keep doing the same thing over and over until you get it right.  The question you should be asking yourself every morning is this: "Is there something I can do today to help someone else above my normal duties".  It may be as simple as making extra copies for someone who is overwhelmed in the office, helping someone struggle with moving a piece a furniture, or giving someone a much needed break.  We are all aware of how our bad days can spread like germs on a shopping cart.  At the end of a bad day, we question if the job itself is the problem. It is impossible to be successful at a job in which you are continually second guessing yourself.

Do you have moral reservations about your work?  Can you see the benefit to others?  Will you make an effort today to change your perspective?  What will you do today to stop standing still in your work and start moving towards success?
