Looking at our work - Day 6 - Lazybones! Sluggard!

I was listening to the Dumping Debt lesson of Dave Ramsey's "Financial Peace University" last night and began to read one of the passages he mentioned in the lesson.  He mentioned that in Proverbs 6:1-5, the Lord directs us to "Go, humble yourself, and appeal firmly to your neighbor. Permit no sleep to your eyes or slumber to your eyelids. Deliver yourself like a gazelle from a snare, and like a bird from the trap of the fowler." God's plan for getting out of debt is: do not rest until you have worked yourself out of the slavery of debt! I've facilitated this course 4 times before and this time, wow, this really hit home.  I must be more diligent.  I don't have a great success story, YET. I will though, we will, as we begin to truly grasp these words.  In verses 10-11 it is written, "A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax, and your poverty will come like a robber, and your need like an armed man".  I wonder how many times we choose rest, without pay, over work.  Why didn't we take that shift that someone asked us to so they could attend a family function? How many times have we let Satan have hold of our work? If we are lazy, we are not being obedient to God.  Now that is a tough pill to swallow.  No one wants to identify themselves as lazy.  Keep in mind that 'lazy' is not a characteristic that we have constantly.  Often we admit that we need rest and need to be lazy.  God recognizes those times that we need to rest.  What he wants from us is to work for him.  We are in his kingdom and with that privilege comes responsibility.  We each have a role to play in serving others in his kingdom.

Are you willing to open your eyes to see the work that God has for you to do in his kingdom?  Will you choose sleep over working for God?
