Your health is your wealth
Yesterday, I enjoyed a surprise lunch with my husband and my daughters at a local Chinese restaurant. We opened our fortune cookies at the end of the meal and mine read "Your health is your wealth". I chuckled at the saying but, then I realized how true that is for everyone! When you are not healthy, your ability to create wealth is limited. God gives us many opportunities to work for the wealth of our family and to serve others. I was talking to a family member yesterday about how we reach a certain age and our bodies simply can't handle the work demands of most jobs. I have been thinking about retirement from a perspective of you don't have to work if you are financially secure. I had not thought about not working because your body isn't supporting the demands of the job. Now, when I'm planning for retirement, I will plan to work as long as I can to benefit my family and others. However, I will be realistic that the time frame will be all God's. It will be according to his plan and it may not be anywhere close to my idea of an appropriate time. Therefore, like the squirrel that puts away acorns for winter, we should be putting something away for the winter of our lives. If our health is our wealth, then right now I'm rich! If I have learned anything from my elders, it is that nothing lasts forever! I should take advantage of the health I have now and save, save, save!!!
